DX8 switch assignment

I searched this topic but couldn't find much help. The manual did not have a clear answer either, at least not to me.
I'm trying to assign throttle hold to the gear switch. I'm in heli mode.
Apparently this has something to do with Fmode but I can't figure it out.
Surface, Air & Water Rc Toys..
In the F-Mode Setup, set Hold:Mix

In a Heli Model Type the Gear switch becomes the Mix switch while the other is Hold but in Acro the Hold switch is Mix.

The names in Orange represent the names of the switches when in Heli Model Type but the Gear switch is missing the orange name of Mix
in F-mode setup, my options for Hold are:
Inhibit
Aile D/R
Elev D/R
Rud D/R
Gyro
Hold
Gov

So I'm not sure how to set it to Mix.
I just checked my firmware. It is 2.02
could that be a problem?
I dont quite remember that far back. My DX8 is at 3.01. You are several updates behind. Mine most definitely has Mix as a selection for the Hold switch.
You cannot assign Hold to ever switch you want, unfortunately. Stupid limitation. You only can assign it to one of the two 2-pos switches (I don't remember which it was). I could do it by editing the SPM file. You just have to fool around a little bit with trial and error. Assign another function to the desired switch, lokk in the SPM file with switch-ID the other function has and write this switch-ID to the Hold function. This works as long as you do not enter the switch assignment menu.

There is no need to edit in his case, he just needs to update his radio and the switch he wants to use for Hold will be available.

If you're just providing additional info then yes that's how I started messing around with spm editing, created a pix and then played with switches and wrote down what switch was what value.
Okay. I sold my DX8 before 3.00 to my buddy so editing was the only way then. Long ago.... man I like my DX18

+1, out of all of them not counting the amount of channels it truly is my go to tx.

Will be hard to top.
Will never be topped if they put other gimbals than the JR gimbals in 😊
Gimbal selection is so subjective. There is actually one guy I met who likes DX4e sticks better than my DX18. And he isn't Captain "Howling Mad" Murdock!

Andy
for doing figure 8'swith a little heli - the easy feel of the DX9 /DX6 hard to beet - small stick movements are accurate and effortless
Switching to the DX18/2 extra effort is noticeable -the difference being the default spring setups
both setups dead nuts on - just one setup better for fine up close flying
a little off the subject but I find the gimbals in my Turnigy 9X every bit as good or better than the DX8.
BTW- thanks to those who offered help with my problem. now I just need to figure out how get and flash the firmware.

Register your product and download the latest airware on the sd card, insert in radio and power on and let it do its thing.

You may want to save/export your models before doing the update as this may erase your models
got the registration done but now I have to go buy an SD card reader. For some reason I thought the Tx had a mini USB plug. Oh well.
Not knocking the product, I really like the programming. After messing with the 9X and ER9X, the DX8 was a breeze to program. I'm just used to TH on the left

I"ve got both the DX8 and the new black DX9. The DX8 is easy to program for this stuff. The DX9 is even a bit easier.

(Wanted to have a backup transmitter. Should one ever quit, everything is grounded.)

SPMR8000

Spektrum DX8 8-Channel Gen 2 Transmitter - SPMR8000

8-Channels and So Much More

Like its groundbreaking predecessor, the DX8 G2 gives pilots a powerful combination of features and capabilities no other 8-channel can match. And for a lot less than you might think, too.

Programmable Voice Alerts

The DX8 lets you keep tabs on important functions without ever taking your eyes off what you're flying. You can program voice alerts to call out what flight mode you've chosen or report telemetry information on demand. If an alarm goes off, you won't have to look at the transmitter display to see what's happening. The DX8 can tell you.

Wireless Trainer Link

This exclusive Spetkrum technology gives DX8 users the ability to wirelessly link up with other Spektrum transmitters and specially-equipped Spektrum FPV headsets. Once bound to another transmitter or component, ModelMatch™ technology will allow the DX8 to re-link without having to go through the bind process again.

With Wireless Trainer Link, you could:

  • Wirelessly 'buddy box' with another DSMX/DSM2 transmitter when teaching someone to fly.
  • Assign gimbal functions to a 2nd 'camera' transmitter when flying a camera drone so you can focus on avoiding obstacles and maintaining visual contact while someone else lines up the shot.
  • Link with specially-equipped Spektrum FPV headsets to wirelessly control head tracking and remotely change video frequencies.

250 Model Memory

The enormous capacity of the DX8's on-board memory means you will rarely, if ever, need to juggle models between transmitter memory and your SD card. The model memory menu is easier to navigate too. Only memory slots with model settings saved to them will appear. You won't have to scroll through empty slots or move models around if one is deleted. Because the DX8 uses the same AirWare™ software as many other Spektrum transmitters, you can share model setups across platforms with almost any Spektrum pilot.

Fly Smarter with Built-in Telemetry

The built-in telemetry feature gives you real-time information on things like your model's battery voltage, signal quality, engine or motor temperature, airspeed, altitude and more.*

Using the voice alert system, you can program the DX8 to tell you when specific telemetry values reach or exceed limits you define. You can also have it call out a sequence of telemetry values on demand with the flip of a switch. If you want to review telemetry after a flight, the DX8 can be set up to record the data to its SD card.
