Teaching Assistant Cover Letter Samples

Are you applying for a teaching assistant position? When you are applying for jobs, it’s important to follow the directions in the job posting. If they ask for a cover letter, you need to be sure to include a good one. Your cover letter for a teaching assistant position should highlight the qualifications you have that are the closest match to those in the job description.

What to Include in Your Cover Letter

Begin your cover letter with a salutation and the hiring manager’s name, if you have it.

If you don’t have a contact name, it is acceptable to use “Dear Hiring Manager.”

  • The body of your letter should contain a short introduction; who you are, what you are interested in, and what makes you stand out.
  • Your second paragraph should highlight a few key assets and qualifications that make you an ideal candidate for the position. Remember, you aren’t reiterating what is on your resume, just highlighting key points.
  • Close by thanking the hiring manager for his or her time. You can also mention how you will follow up. In closing, keep it polite and professional. In an email letter, you would include your email address and phone number after your typed name.

How to Format the Letter or Email

Your cover letter should look professional, and be formatted correctly for post or email.

  • If you are mailing your letter, it should be formatted like a regular business letter, with your contact information, the date, and the hiring manager’s contact information at the top of the page.
  • An email letter should have your name and the job title you are applying for in the subject line.
  • As with all job search related correspondence, proofread carefully. You don’t want your application passed by because of avoidable careless errors.

Dear Mr./Ms. Lastname,

Please accept my application for the teaching assistant position advertised on Craigslist. I would like to continue to develop my teaching skills while creating a challenging and fun learning environment for students. The middle school age group is particularly appealing to me, because students are very impressionable, interested in learning, and open to new concepts.

I am very well qualified and would be an asset to the school because of my experience working as a teaching assistant for XYZ School. I have worked with both elementary and middle school teachers, as well as camp directors to develop curricula that meet the needs of students.

I enjoy tutoring students and helping them build confidence in their ability to achieve, both academically and socially. In addition, I have artistic and computer skills that will be an asset when developing class projects.

Thank you for considering my application. I would appreciate the opportunity to interview and look forward to hearing from you in the near future.

Sincerely,

Subject: Michele Black - Assistant Teacher

Dear Ms. Pibbs,

I read with interest the job posting for assistant teacher at ABC Elementary. I am currently employed as the third grade assistant teacher at The Friend’s School, where I have been for three years. I am interested in the position at your school because of the diversity of your students and teachers. I feel that a larger district would allow me to utilize more of my skills in a more stimulating environment.

As well as my experience with children in the classroom, I am a certified physical therapist, which I feel gives me a broader perspective which I can share with the teacher and students. I have successfully helped my teacher to integrate movement into her classroom, and I believe that the students have benefited from learning to use activity to focus their energies on learning.

I enjoy assisting children daily in the classroom, and helping the teacher to implement his or her curriculum. I believe that my experience, as well as my organizational and communication skills would be an asset in your school.

I have enclosed my resume for your review. Thank you for your consideration. I look forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely,

Mary Blue

Dear Ms Graham,

As a seasoned and accomplished professional I am eager to apply for your Teaching Assistant vacancy that I saw advertised yesterday on the Dayjob.com website.

After reading the job description, I feel that my proven ability to be able to contribute to a child’s academic, physical and social well-being, makes me an ideal candidate for your position. Furthermore, as someone who has a calm, encouraging and positive manner I am confident that I will not only be an effective role model for pupil behaviour, but also someone who can communicate sensitively and appropriately with my pupils.

For the last one year I have been employed in a similar role to the one you are advertising with the Southern Central School. I am responsible for supporting teaching staff as well as senior colleagues in all their teaching and routine administration duties. I am actively involved in lesson preparation, classroom management and a wide range of children’s learning activities.

My key strengths include being able to provide positive educational experiences for children in a school setting and having their safety in mind at all times.

Right now I am seeking to forge a career in teaching by joining an establishment like yours where I will have an opportunity to learn additional skills in my chosen area of work. If you require any further information from me then please get in touch. In any event, I look forward to hearing from you as the recruitment process progresses.

Thank you very much for taking the time to review my application.

Yours sincerely,
